Present in the Pain Online Retreat

My online retreat helps women to lean into their Catholic faith to find healing after pregnancy and child loss.

Whether you experienced an early miscarriage or the death of an adult child, there is something here to help you process your pain and find hope.

It's everything I wish I'd had after the deaths of my own four children to miscarriage, stillbirth, and infant loss.

This is not a do-it-yourself course, but a small group retreat that we will walk through together live.

You don't have to figure it out on your own!

The next retreat cohort will take place in 2026. Join the mailing list below to be notified when it takes place.

"I learned so much more how to grieve with an eternal perspective thanks to this wonderful retreat."

Grief affects everything.

When our babies died, I felt shattered.

I felt like I was picked up and dropped into a new world of grief and pain and isolation that I had to try to figure out on my own.

Only I wasn’t the me that I was used to. I was a new me - one that felt fragile and broken, confused and stuck inside my own head, trying to make sense of what I had just been through.

Grief had affected everything inside me and outside of me, and I didn’t know how to move through it.

Our faith offers us so much hope.

Sometimes we just need help seeing it

Suffering is where the rubber of our faith meets the road of life in this Valley of Tears. Jesus tells us that if we want to follow Him, we must take up our crosses daily.

You know this. I knew this.

But the cross of child loss is crushing. I couldn't function under its weight, and I didn't understand how faith could make it easier to bear.

It felt like God was far away and I didn't know how to reconnect with Him.

But eventually God enabled me to piece together the tools I needed to reconnect with Him and find healing for my shattered heart.

I want to share the tools that I learned with you, and like Simon of Cyrene, help you to carry this cross and find the hope to move forward!

Retreat topics include:

  • The healing that comes from telling your story

  • Real talk about grief and trauma

  • How our unique temperament affects our grieving

  • The impact on our other relationships

  • Why it might be hard to pray, and what to do about it

  • The example of Our Lady of Sorrows

  • The Church’s teaching on hope for salvation for our children

  • How to lean on our faith when our hearts have been broken

  • The gifts that come by way of suffering

  • The journey forward

"I am blown away by the impact this retreat has had on me."

You don't have to figure it out on your own.

Grief demands our attention.

But oftentimes, we're trying to grieve in between all the other things we're doing.

Giving ourselves the time and space to process what we've been through, to share our experiences, and to connect with others who are walking this journey can really start us on the road to profound healing.

Plan to set aside these three days to be present to yourself and to the group. Allow heart the space to be seen and heard.

What if you could find the support, tools, and understanding that you needed to start processing your grief and healing from the pain of child loss?

Here's what the retreat is like:

The Format

The retreat takes place over three consecutive days.

During this time, we will have a live session addressing a different topic followed by discussion time as a group.

The topics for each session are:

  • Session 1 - The Unexpected Elements of Grief and Trauma In this session, we’ll normalize the grieving process by discussing the complexity of grief, and some of the things that make grieving the loss of a child intense and difficult.

  • Session 2 - The Example of Our Lady of Sorrows In this session, we look to Our Lady as the perfect example for us of grieving with faith, hope, and love. We close this session by praying the Rosary of the Seven Sorrows together.

  • Session 3 – The ways God Uses our Suffering In this session, we'll unpack what it means to look at our suffering with an eternal perspective. We learn a practical tool for managing our difficult thoughts and emotions that can keep us feeling stuck.

Retreat size is limited to only 20 participants so that we can share openly together as a smaller, more intimate group.

Here's what you'll come away with

A deeper relationship with God and Our Blessed Mother

You'll learn how to grow in faith, hope, and love of God by following Mary's example of trusting Him while suffering the loss of her Child.

A community of supportive women who know the pain of loss

Grief can feel so isolating. You'll learn you're not alone in any of the ways it's showing up and have a supportive group of like-minded women to walk beside you.

Understanding, compassion, and patience for yourself as you grieve

We can have so many thoughts about the way we are grieving or how long it is taking. You'll gain tools to understand your own unique grief journey.

Practical tools for processing painful emotions

Sometimes it can feel like your emotions will swallow you whole. You'll learn practical ways to identify and process painful emotions so that you can begin to feel better right away.

An eternal perspective on suffering from the Saints, the Scriptures, and the Church

You'll learn Aquinas' remedies for sorrow, the Church's teaching on hope for unbaptized babies and scriptures that can help you to focus on the truth about God's character and how He loves you.

A heart that feels seen, heard, and understood

We learn early on that we can't share the story of our loss with just anyone. Being able to tell your story to others who can listen and understand is the first step toward healing your broken heart. You will be honored and cared for in your pain.

Here's what others had to say about the retreat

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“I finally felt like I was in the presence of someone who wasn’t judging me or trying to fix me. You simply understood because you are living it, and you didn’t ask that we do anything other than be present. THANK YOU.”

"I can't begin to tell you how much it meant to me to be with other mothers who are trying to navigate the difficult waters of our profound loss. In particular, I met 2 other mothers who also lost their adult children. For me, this terrible loss was now at last something I could share with other mothers who would understand me."

"This retreat was invaluable for me! It was HANDS-DOWN the best thing that I have done for myself with regard to processing the grief of child loss. (WAY more helpful than innumerable therapy sessions!) Eileen is an amazing guide who has "been there." She has created a very thoughtful and specific program that feels tailor-made. She speaks from her experience and from her heart. This approach is instantly affirming and empathetic. It makes a BIG difference to have the person accompanying you through grief know EXACTLY what feelings and situations might arise, as well as offer the perspective of someone who has "made it to the other side" of the grieving process. Grief never truly goes away, but it does become more livable. Being a participant in this retreat changed my life. I feel so much more at peace now than before. I no longer feel completely broken. God bless you, Eileen, for creating this space for grieving mothers. This work is so important, and I am so grateful for it. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this retreat to any woman who has experienced child loss."

Your openness in sharing your story was very moving and helpful for considering my journey. [I] loved the art/creative time as well as opportunities to share with the other women.

“I love…the graphic for grief and how it can manifest in so many different emotions and be all over the place. It’s helpful to understand what trauma is.

“[The]…Retreat for Grieving Mothers was all that I hoped for and much more! After losing my [adult] daughter unexpectedly, my grief seems unending and unbearable. Eileen offered expertise, compassion and many tools to help and heal the pain. I loved the comparison to Our Lady of Sorrows, in her road to Calvary. I opened up to Eileen, in a special way, which surprised me. I highly recommend any future retreats Eileen may offer. You won’t regret it!”

"This Good Friday was the first Good Friday I could actually put myself in the shoes of Our Mother....Seeing her sorrows, after hearing about it and praying about her sorrows, and letting myself cry was something I wouldn't have been able to do without the help of you and our group... I was given incredibly beautiful and substantial tools for Catholic grieving."
